Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I purchase tickets?
The Montecasino Box Office is open from 12 Noon - 8pm daily (9pm during show days). Tickets may also be purchased at any Computicket outlet, Shoprite or Checkers Supermarkets or online at www.computicket.com. The Credit Card used to make the booking must be presented when collecting tickets.
What time do you open the doors?
The front doors are opened one hour before curtain up. This allows you access to the foyer and the bars. The auditorium is then opened approximately thirty minutes before curtain up, allowing you access to your seats. Auditorium access can vary due to the technical setup prior to each performance.
What time should I arrive at the theatre?
It is best to arrive at the theatre at least thirty minutes prior to the performance. We recommend that you allow adequate time to find a suitable parking and have time to locate the Teatro on the complex as some times during peak periods this can take longer than expected.
Can I buy food and drink at the theatre?
We have two fully stocked bars - one in the main foyer and the other on the second floor. Sweets, chocolates, a small selection of savoury items, bottled water and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase on the stands in the foyer. We regret that NO food or non-sealable beverages are permitted into the auditorium.
Can I use a credit/debit card for purchasing drinks, sweets, programmes, souvenir merchandise etc?
Yes. We can take card payments at any of our tills, including the foyer bar and merchandise sales areas. The only exceptions are the confectionery and non-alcoholic beverage sales points in the foyer.
Is there an ATM nearby?
The nearest ATM is opposite the Montecasino Box Office, which is situated between La Toscana and the Beira Alta restaurant in the main complex. There are also ATMs below the escalators leading from the main Multi Story Parking and next to the Food Court.
Do you have booster cushions for children?
We have a limited number of booster cushions which can be requested from the ushers at the door in which you enter the auditorium and are provided on a "first come, first served" basis. It is best to arrive early to ensure you are able to get one of these. You are welcome to bring your own booster cushion with you.
Can I bring my baby with me?
There is a strict "no under two" policy. Patrons bringing in babies will be asked to leave. All theatres state that no babies in arms may be allowed to attend. This is to ensure that all customers enjoy the show. For certain shows young children over two are admitted but are not encouraged to attend unless the parent is confident the child will not distract other members of the audience. Accompanying adults will be asked to remove any noisy infants. Generally, most musicals are suitable for children but please note that as a GENERAL guideline, an age of five years and over is recommended (more specific age limits may apply with differing productions).
Can I sit my child on my lap and not purchase a ticket for them?
No. We are strictly licensed about the number of people that are allowed in the building at any one time. Every person within the building, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
Can I pre-order drinks from the bar for the interval?
Regrettably, we are unable to provide this facility.
Do you have first aid facilities?
A paramedic is on duty for every performance.
Will I be allowed in if I am late?
In the majority of cases, yes, but at the discretion of management. Some shows do not allow latecomers to enter the auditorium once the show has started. In certain instances we may have to hold people in the foyer for a short period of time before seating them at a particular moment that will ensure the minimum of disturbance to both cast and audience. For most shows, however, we are able to seat latecomers at a suitable moment. If latecomers have seats that are difficult to access without disturbing other patrons they will be seated in alternative seats (if available) and shown to their correct seats after interval.
Can I take photographs/videos?
No. The appearance of artistes along with the designs for sets and costumes etc are all copyrighted, therefore it is against the law to photograph any elements of the show. It can also be both dangerous for the artistes and distracting for other members of the audience.
Is there a lift that will get me to my seat?
There is one lift at the Teatro which goes to the first and second floor and is located next to the ablution facilities. However, due to the nature of the building, there are only limited areas that are accessible without any stairs at all, even with the lift access. Doors 9 and 10 are the uppermost doors and have access on the third floor via two flights of stairs from the second level.
Is there a cloakroom?
No, but bags, coats and umbrellas may be left at the Front Of House Manager's office on the right hand side of the Ground Foyer. All items are left at the owners own risk.
Is strobe lighting used at the theatre?
During some shows strobe lighting may be used. There is always a sign displayed in the foyer to advise patrons if strobe or flashing lights are used in a show. If the Teatro is aware of strobe lighting in advance a warning will be placed on the show's page on this website.
Can I take my drinks into the auditorium?
Alcohol is not permitted within the auditorium. Soft drinks in a sealable bottle are allowed, although nothing in glass or an open container are permitted.
Can I park at the theatre?
Montecasino has a Multi Story Parking facility. The closest parking to the Teatro has access between the theatre and the Sun Square Hotel. The closest entrance to this parking is via the Eastern traffic circle (off Roundabout 3) at the Witkoppen Road end of Montecasino Boulevard.
Can the cast of the show wish me or a member of my family Happy Birthday / Anniversary during the show?
As a receiving house for touring productions, we are unfortunately not in a position to assist in this regard as we have no control over the content or script.
Does the theatre have wheelchair access?
Yes, we do. There are four accessible car parking spaces below the Piazza and an accessible toilet. Within the auditorium there are two specially designed wheelchair platforms in the stalls - Row ZB 8 to 11 and ZB 39 to 42. Access is via the lift to the first floor. For detailed information and for the booking of these facilities please contact Edie Fleming at 011 510-7472 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).
Is there disabled parking near the theatre and how would I gain access to this?
The nearest access to the Teatro for anyone disabled, or with walking difficulties, is to park in the Underground Parking directly beneath the Piazza (the new open area in front of the main entrance to the Teatro).
The directions to locate this parking area are as follows:
On Montecasino Boulevard take Roundabout 3 into the Montecasino Complex (the roundabout closest to Witkoppen Road). Almost immediately on entry you will approach a Button Roundabout - straight ahead goes to a multi-level parking area, to the right (at 3 o'clock) is the route to the Underground parking under the Piazza (and for Sun Square Hotel) - take this exit. Keep to the left hand side and the road bends to the left at which point you are almost immediately upon the entry payment boom.
Should you have a Disabled sticker these parkings are directly ahead of you. To the left of these is the Lift which you should take to Ground Level (G). Should this level (B2) be fill there is another level of parking directly below this floor (B1) which has an identical set up - this is accessed by following the "Exit" sign.
Upon exiting the Lift on the Ground Level turn RIGHT and the Teatro's main entrance is about forty metres along on the right.
Does the theatre have facilities for the hearing impaired?
Yes. Seats purchased in rows ZB, ZC and ZD in the Stalls allow access to the Oticon loop system for those patrons wearing hearing aids, which enables customers with a hearing impairment to fully enjoy all performances. The wheelchair platforms also have access to this system. For further information, please contact Edie Fleming at 011 510-7472 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).
Does the theatre have a dress code?
Although in times gone by it was the "done" thing to dress up for a night at the theatre, sadly, those days seemed to have passed. From our experience most patrons now dress in a manner in which they feel comfortable - either casual or smart casual - the choice is yours!
What are the Stalls and Balcony? And which is better?
Stalls are otherwise knows as the lower seating area of the Teatro. They are the section of the theatre which starts closest to the stage. The Balcony is the seating area which is upstairs. Both areas have the various price tiers. A Restricted View seat means that you would not have a 100% view of everything which is happening on stage and is priced accordingly.
Seating in either area is for the personal preference of the patrons.
Can I order tickets from overseas and/or with an overseas credit card?
Yes, tickets may be purchased with an overseas credit card via the Computicket website www.computicket.com provided that the same credit card is produced at the time of collecting the tickets.
Do you offer Corporate Hospitality packages?
Yes, personalised corporate packages are available for twenty people and more. For further information regarding these please contact PAULA KELLY on 011-510 7905 or e-mail: paulak@tsogosun.com
What happens in the event of load shedding?
The Teatro is equipped with generators and, in order for you to enjoy an uninterrupted performance, these are used for each show.
Do you have easily accessible seating for the disabled and/or infirm?
The Teatro seating plans are available on this webpage. The seats we recommend as easily accessible for the disabled and/or infirm are as follows:
Stalls
From the Foyer to the Stalls there are NO steps between Rows A to P. Thereafter there is a ledge step per row to the back of the Stalls. The Wheelchair seats (Row ZB 8 to 11 and ZB 39 to 42) offers flat access to seats and wheelchair spaces at the back of the Stalls, via the lift from the ground floor to the first floor.
Balcony
The Balcony can only be accessed via the Lift to the second floor, or stairs, so no wheelchairs are possible. The Balcony is very steep and we do not recommend it to anyone who is unsteady on their feet, has dizziness problems whilst walking, or suffers from vertigo. Also bear in mind that the lift cannot be used during an evacuation so you may have to face the many steps down to the Foyer in an emergency.
There are two steps per row, which are of a steep gradient and short width. Handrails down the left and right hand sides assist access to the seats on the ends of either side of the aisles. It is NOT recommended that any disabled or infirm person be seated on the Balcony from Rows UN to UX.
What do I have to do in the event of an evacuation?
Our ushers are trained to instruct patrons as to which exit they should proceed to in the event of an evacuation.
