Show Overview
Tonya Koenderman reveals a showgirl’s life with show-stopping songs and hilarious anecdotes at the Studio at Montecasino.
"Had a dreadful show last night. It didn't help that my botox had almost worn off, and I was squeezed into a size seven shoe. Eight just makes my feet look enormous.”
Thus begins the diary of our anti-heroine diva, starring the self-proclaimed diva, Tonya Koenderman. During the course of the show we come to learn about her many faux pas, hang-ups, addictions, fears, and the not-so-glamorous side of show business.
Directed by Tonya's long-time friend and Durban's darling, Lisa Bobbert, Diaries of a Down-and-Out Diva is a funny, endearing, and sometimes downright embarrassing, story of one diva's climb to, then from, then climb again to glory. Then fall from it again. One quickly learns that being in show business is not all romance and glamour!
Tonya illustrates this epic journey of self-discovery with a menu of rousing and evocative songs - such as “I'm a Woman”, from Smokey Joe's Café; “Le Jazz Hot”, from Victor Victoria; the Shirley Bassey hits “I Who Have Nothing” and “This is My Life”; and the Sinatra hit “It Was a Very Good Year”. Afraid of nothing, our diva also takes on the well-loved Liza Minnelli roof-lifters “Cabaret” and “New York, New York”.
Join one of the country’s top cabaret entertainers in show that is intimate, yet bold; hilarious, yet endearingly human.
