The Buddy Holly Story

“All of my love, all my kissin’
You don’t know what you’ve been a-missing’
Oh boy, when you’re with me, oh boy
The world can see that you were meant for me!”

Buddy Holly is undoubtedly one of the biggest influences of Rock and Roll music to date. Having inspired musical icons such as John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Elton John, and Paul McCartney, it is imperative that his story continues to get told.

The world’s most successful Roll and Roll musical makes its debut in South Africa directed by director extraordinaire Nick Winston. Known for his productions of West End, Fame, CATS, Chess, We Will Rock You – and Annie, this musical will take your breath away. The production has been watched by over 22 million people, received rave reviews and awards including Academy Awards, and a Golden Globes nomination. This production tells the life story of the last few years of Buddy Holly’s life.

Lubbock, Texas native, Buddy Holly rose to fame in the late 50’s through his band The Crickets and skyrocketed even further when he went solo. His singing, song writing and guitar skills, set him apart and contributed to the evolution of popular music. With multiple hit records under his name, he unfortunately lost his life in a plane crash while on tour on 03 February 1959, the date most people consider as “The Day Music Died”.

Portrayed by a star-studded cast of South African musician and actors, this will be a show you won’t forget. Singer-songwriter and heartthrob Jethro Tait will lead the cast with his portrayal of Buddy Holly, supported by Bethany Dickson from the productions Matilda, Grease, The Sound of Music and Sunset Blvd as well as Keaton Ditchfield from Evita, Saturday Night Fever, and West Side Story. Michael Stray, Francois Botha, Chad Baai, Simone Neethling, Gianluca Gironi, Thoko Jiyane, Che-Jean Jupp, Gerard Van Rooyen, Koketso Mere, Ganbriela Dos Santos, Vituous Kandemiri, Sindiswa Ndlovu and Morgan Marshall are also part of this talented line up. The show will feature a sensational set and costume designs by Fleur du Cap winner Niall Griffin with musical direction produced by music connoisseur Wessel Odendaal.

Expect to sing along and dance to your favourite songs by Buddy Holly including That’ll Be The Day, True Love Ways, Oh Boy, La Bamba, Rave On, Everyday, Johnny B. Goode, Not Fade Away, Maybe Baby and Peggy Sue.
