SENTIMIENTOS LA ROSA SPANISH DANCE
Swirling skirts, castanets and a passionate display of Flamenco dancing, rhythms and music is what audiences can look forward to in Sentimientos, a dynamic dance production directed by Carolyn Holden that explores the broad spectrum of human emotions, ranging from fury to elation. This production comes to the Montecasino for Valentine’s Week in 2011!
Holden, La Rosa’s founder and director, is well known for her bold concepts and innovative choreographic approach. In Sentimientos, she has drawn from various influences creating a visual feast that combines traditional flamenco and a contemporary flare, with the dancers exquisitely costumed by Dicky Longhurst. The production also features choreography by the Madrid-based choreographers Joaquin Ruiz, Domingo Ortega and La Truco. World-music is the inspiration behind the onstage band, consisting of Bienyameen on Flamenco guitar, Robert Davids on Cajon, Robert Jeffery on guitar and cello, Brydon Bolton on double bass, Christopher Jeffery on violin and the haunting vocals of Loreán Swartz.
This production has been made possible with the support of the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund. La Rosa is also supported by National Arts Council, Breadline Africa, Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sports and the City of Cape Town.
